Reddy caste most powerful caste in Andhra Pradesh: The origins of the Reddy caste are related to the Rashtrakuta dynasty, although that is debatable. The Reddy community where chiefly Huge land possessing aristocrats and carried out cultivation as their main occupation. Because of this, they enjoyed chieftain positions for small territories in various kingdoms.
However in 1323 CE after the death of Pratapa Rudra, the Kakatiya kingdom broke away and one chieftain called Prolaya vema Reddy declared himself Independent and established his dynasty at Addanki, Andhra Pradesh.
Until the emergence of the Vijayanagara Kingdom, they ruled Central Andhra(Telangana) and Coastal Andhra.
After the Reddy kingdom came under the control of the Vijayanagara Empire the Reddies became the military chieftains of the Vijayanagara rulers. During this time Reddies had to spread over Western parts of Karnataka (like Gulbarga, Raichur, and Bellary) and northern parts of Tamilnadu(like Vellore) to act as aide of the Vijayanagara Empire.

They continued to enjoy Chieftain’s positions in successful Golconda, and British regimens and after that turned into Zamindars.
During the Razakar rebellion movement and Nizam monarchy times, many Reddy leaders gave up their landlords and actively joined Andhra Hindu Mahasabha and made it strong(AHM was started as a subsidiary of Indian National Congress, hence Reddys influenced the Congress party since then).
When Andhra Mahasabha started The Telangana Rebellion it moved away from Congress and got associated with the Communist Party of India, at this time many Reddy leaders like Baddam Yella Reddy, Ravi Narayan Reddy, Suravaram Pratap Reddy(along with Madapati Hanumanth Rao, Kaloji Narayan Rao, Puchalapalli Sundarayya) who where influenced by the Socialist ideas of Communism launched armed rebellion against the cruel rule of Nizam Landlords.
The rebellion and subsequent police action initiated by Sardar Vallabhai Patel led to the capture of Hyderabad state from the Nizam’s rule on 17 September 1948.
All the above events show why Reddies are an influential caste in Telugu Politics.
